Joy and Love

Would you look for peanut butter in the vegetable aisle of the grocery store? It's not there, is it?

Yet the places we look for Joy, Love, and Peace are just as silly. We all desire Joy, Love, and Peace. We just look for it in all of the wrong places.

"The pathway to joy is clear and well laid out. One cannot come away from reading
this book and question where to find it." - John Murphy, Owosso, Michigan

In 2012 Calvin Emerson retired as the pastor of Northgate Wesleyan Church in Owosso, Michigan. During his years in ministry and with adidas he began to realize that most people are satisfied with a level fo living far below what God intended them to experience. By openly sharing his own life journey, it is his desire to encourage people to discover a life filled with JOY.

Introduction, from Joy, A Hidden Treasure in Plain Sight

Ever have trouble finding something? I usually have no trouble in a hardware store. the clerks seem to stand at the door and fight over the customers, but, in a grocery store I am lost. There have to be at least 5 million items in each aisle, so when my wife asks me to pick something up I know I am in for a long hunt. One day she asked me to bring home some peanut butter, a staple in our home. I searched every single aisle including the deli, cookie, ice cream, and even donut aisle (I once had a peanut butter donut), and I found nothing that resembled peanut butter. Introduction, from Love, A Hidden Treasure in Plain Sight

If I were to ask you what one of your greatest emotional needs is in this life, I’m confident you would respond, “the need to be loved“. We all desire to be loved. Love is what makes life worth living. We desire people to love us even if we do not feel beautiful and far from perfect. We desire people to love us when we do not feel lovable. Love is something we cannot live without. It is what drives our engines, and it helps us get through the hard times. Continue reading the introduction

Introduction, from Peace, A Hidden Treasure in Plain Sight

One of the most beautiful passages in the Bible is Luke 2:13-14. It is a passage where the angel spoke to the shepherds the night Jesus was born, signifying that Jesus would bring peace on this earth. It states:

"And suddenly there was with the angle a multitude of heavenly hosts praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men."

This is a promise from the heavenly hosts that Jesus would usher in a great peace on earth. Yet what has happened to that peace? Continue reading the indroduction

Introduction, from Patience, A Hidden Treasure in Plain Sight

I did not want to write this book. I have had no reservations in writing my first three books about Love, Joy, and Peace. All three of these gifts are qualities most people hunger for in this life.  But I have thoughtfully considered putting this fourth book about patience on hold.  Patience is a quality where I fall painfully short.  I am not a patient person and I know God has some potentially painful “patience lessons” in store for me.
